About Us

Foundation:

The Appropriate Communication Techniques for Development (ACT) Center was started in 1990 as a non-profit organization. The center was created to help other community groups and charities do their work better. ACT supports these groups by helping them improve their management, technical, and creative skills. The main goal is to help them become more active in their communities and to promote fairness, equal rights, and respect for everyone without discrimination.

Our Vision:
A society that values and respects women.

We envision a community free from violence, where everyone lives well and the human rights of both men and women are respected. We believe that fairness and democracy are the best paths to a better, equal future for everyone.

Our Mission:

The mission of ACT is to improve communication in community work and help local groups organize themselves. We aim to: Connect different development groups across Egypt and the Arab world.Provide useful information and learning resources. Train and support women's groups and marginalized communities to build their skills. Encourage everyone to take part in community work and speak up on social issues.

Our activities:

  • Training to improve women's livelihoods and protect traditional crafts and heritage from extinction.
  • Providing job opportunities for beneficiaries in factories and workshops to ensure an income that suits their living conditions.
  • Empowering women and girls to access job opportunities and establish small businesses in the crafts they are trained in.
  • Workshops to raise awareness among targeted women about the importance of their participation in the labor market through audiovisual storytelling (mobile filmmaking).
  • Activities related to climate justice and gender equality.
  • Holding public meetings in the governorates to discuss issues related to women and girls.
  • Workshops on mainstreaming gender issues by promoting the concept of equality.
  • Capacity-building seminars for male and female students to combat all forms of violence in schools.
  • Activities to combat the root causes of human Workshops on equality: Teaching people about fairness and equal rights for men and women.
  • School training: Classes for students (boys and girls) to help stop all kinds of violence and bullying in schools.
  • Protecting women and girls: Activities to keep women and girls safe from being traded or trafficked. This includes teaching them to read, helping them earn money, supporting their mental health, teaching them about their rights, helping them get official ID papers, and giving them medical care.
  • Stopping harmful practices: Using creative arts—like plays, photo shows, and short films—to end serious harm against women and girls, such as child marriage and physical abuse.
  • Contributing support to short films to make them suitable for screening at film festivals.
  • Building the capacities of women and girls to work in the film industry and produce films that address women’s issues.
  • Supporting and partnering with various film festivals to highlight women’s issues.
  • Developing mobile filmmaking skills among young people in local communities.
  • Organizing public community film screenings across Egyptian governorates.
  • Focusing on violence against women and girls through the annual Mobile Cinema Festival (from 2015 to the present).
